Training for Public Relations Public Relations BNI over Indonesia

Serikat Perusahaan Pers (SPS) Pusat, won the trust from Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) to manage internal training program for the official public relations officers of BNI regions throughout Indonesia. Taking place in Kuta, Bali, 30 to 31 August 2012, training takes the theme, "Improving Public Relation Skills and Understanding Media". The training was attended by 28 participants from 14 regional offices of the BNI plus six person that in charge for the event, from Corporate Communications Division and Secretariat BNI Jakarta headquarters.

The first day of training, performed three speakers from Jakarta. They are, Zulnasri (BNI) who spoke about his experience when he was managing the public relations program at BNI. Now, Zulnasri moved to other division and became VP Business & Corporate Sales of BNI. Next turn,  Dian Anggraeni Umar (PR Consultant), to share her experiences about the role and functions of a public relations practitioner, to give some lecturer on how to anticipate and manage public relations crisis communication.

The last session of the first day is filled by Agus Sudibyo (Member of the Press Council). Agus made a highlight in the reality of the relationship between the news media with the sources (PR). According to him, public relations does not always have to be afraid of negative news. Because of the negative news about a corporation is not necessarily caused by the wrong message. "It could be because there is a problem (error) arised from a corporation. And this is the task of the media as the social control for the public interest, "he said.

At night, SPS Pusat team invited participants to enjoy dinner with typical dishes of Bali, in the cafe Batan Waru, one of the favorite restaurants in Kuta. On the second day of training, Asmono Wikan (SPS Executive Director Center) was presenting the Indonesian media maps. He said, at least now there are 11 majors of media business group in Indonesia. Still on the same day, before the Friday prayer break, the participants had the opportunity to acquire technical refresher on writing an effective press release from Ratna Hidayati (Tabloid Editor of Tokoh).

The conclude from the two days training session, the participants visited the Bali Post group's office in Jalan Kepundung, Denpasar, and directly welcomed by the Chief Editor of Bali Post, Nyoman Wirata. Nyoman told the participants on how the Bali Post journalists in detail. From the starting process when trying to find news until publishing the news. Complete with standard values and techniques of journalism ethics to be observed every journalist Bali Post. The event ended with the referral of certificates to all participants by Nyoman Virata as well as representing SPS Branch Bali which he also led.

Committee collected by questionnaire, participants were quite satisfied overall. They say that internal training is very needed by PR BNI. Hope these trainees could take place regularly, with more diverse sources and attended by leaders of the BNI branches throughout Indonesia. (eta / asw)
