Ways to Make the Newspaper Looks Good!

Association of Press Publishers (SPS) held the second graphic design workshop. This time, the event was organized by SPS and North Sumatera SPS in Garuda Plaza Hotel, Medan, on the last May 23th.

North Sumatera SPS Secretary, Farianda Putra Sinik, said, the technology development has given a new touch for newspaper cover.

 “We hope, this event can give an understanding and a new knowledge for newspaper layouters in North Sumatera, so they can make a better and better cover design day by day,” said Farianda in his speech.

The keynote speaker of this workshop was Head of Corporate Design of Tempo Group, S. Malela Mahargasarie. There were two sessions he has given. First was about “How to Use Photos, Illustrations, and Infographic for an Optimal Design”. The last session was about “The Practice for Locating the Cover”.

According to Melala, infographic could perform the matters more synoptical but still complete, because it was supported with the right pictures and informations. It made newspaper more innovative and richer with datas.

The chairman of the event and also the Vice Chairman of North Sumatera SPS, Porman Wilson Manalu, also said, the cover design problems could no longer underestimated. Its importance was equal with the contents. Increasing the front page quality was absolutely needed to attract readers.

“A good-looking news paper can increase the circulation. So it also escalates the profit,” said Porman. It is important not only for layouters or designers, but also the media corporate.*ella
